Add Spikes to Any Text in Photoshop

This tutorial shows you how you can easily add spikes to your text in Photoshop. The same technique can be applied to add any shape you want to your texts.

Start by making a new document, white background, 720x200 in size. I added a subtle pattern to the background using the wonderful Pattern Essentials.

Next, type your text and center it in the document. The font I used is Bebas Neue.

Now, to add the spikes, we'll be creating a brush.

Open a new document 20x20 in size. Draw a little triangle upside down filling the whole space. After experimenting a bit, you can adjust this size to one that suits you.

< this is the triangle i made.

Go to Edit > Define Brush Preset. Name it "spike" (or whatever works for you).

Go back to your document with the text in it. Select the Brush tool and select the brush you just created.

Open the Brush window (F5, or Window > Brush). Change the spacing to 100%, Size jitter to 100% and Control to "Pen Pressure". Screenshot is below:

Now, make a new layer above your text layer. Select the text layer and go to Layer > Type > Create Work Path.

Select the Path Selection Tool (A), select the new layer you had created, and right click on the path. Select Stroke Path, use the Brush tool and hit OK. There you go!

You can use the exact same technique to quickly add some *lovely* glitter to your designs, like so: :)
