Making a Bullet

In this tutorial you’re going to learn how to build the ordinary structure of a bullet as well as teach you a whole bunch of interesting techniques.
To begin with, open a new document with sizes 687x527 px.

Now create a new layer and name it “Bullet Case” (naming your layers nicely helps later). Then, grab the Rectangle Tool and create a rectangle with 39 px width and 126 px height.

Then using the Rectangle Tool create another rectangle with 39 px width and 6 px height just under the “Bullet Case” shape and name that layer “Bullet Case - Lower Part”.

So far, we’ve made 2 shapes on 2 different layers: “Bullet Case” and “Bullet Case - Lower Part”
Now we’ll move on with the a little bit more difficult shapes such as the “Bullet” layer and the “Bullet Rim” layer.
Alright, now create a new layer and name it “Bullet”, select the Pen Tool and create a half elliptical path above the “Bullet Case” shape.

Right-click on the path while you’re still using the Pen Tool and select the option Fill Path. The filled part should looks like this:

Now the thing with the black and white overlay of the colors on the image shown above is just an example to see how the shapes should looks like, but you can color them all in white or whatever works for you.
So we’ve made the 3 layers so far and let’s move on the 4th one which will be the final one.
Create new layer and name it “Bullet Rim”.
Now to create that layer you won’t need a Pen Tool, just simply select the Rounded Rectangle Tool and place a rounded rectangle bellow the “Bullet Case-Low Part” shape (choose a small px size for the roundness of the rectangle).
This is how the structural layers of the bullet should look like (including the 4th layer – the “Bullet Rim”).

Now when we have all the layers prepared we can modify it and move on to the part where we’ll be pushing it to get a realistic look.
First of all select the layer “Bullet Case” and enter its layer properties. Then follow these instructions.

And this is how the “Bullet Case” layer should look like. Pretty cool for just a few steps, right?
